Monocouche Rendering (One-Coat)

Monocouche is a one coat, ready mixed, cementitious, weather resistant, external decorative, through coloured render, suitable for most types of brick or blockwork.

It is the modern take on sand and cement. The main difference is that you can order the monocouche in the colour you desire your home to be finished in and will not need to paint. Monocouche gives a much more crisp and clean finish than sand cement. Monocouche also always your building to "Breathe".

This means that if any moisture is trapped in your wall cavity, it can be allowed to escape through your walls and through the render, thus allowing your building to breathe and not retain any moisture, which in turn could turn to damp.

Although more expensive than a basic sand and cement render in the outset, the application of through coloured render is a lot faster than its traditional counterpart. External monocouche renders can be applied as one coat (depending on the receiving wall substrate) rather than two coats as with traditional sand and cement renders.

Of course, as with any through coloured render material, longer term savings will also be made due to not having to incur repeated scaffolding and decoration costs for years to come.

External Wall Insulation (EWI)

External wall insulation involves fixing a layer of insulation material to the wall, then covering it with a reinforcement mesh and a special type of render.

Cavity walls are made up of two skins with a gap between them. This gap acts as an air barrier to reduce heat loss and stop having a cold wall that can then become damp to the touch. Properties built prior to and around the 1920 are like to be of a solid wall rather than a cavity construction. Solid wall buildings can have as much as 45% heat loss.

This can be solved by adding a insulated render system to the external wall.  Fixing polystyrene or phenolic insulation board to the external face wall and applying a choice of pre-coloured render finishes. There are many different finishes that can be used so please make contact to discuss what you would like and we will advise you. The main advantages are listed below.

  • Provides efficient thermal insulation for refurbishment and new build projects.

  • Comprehensive range of colours and textures enable the creation of striking visual effects.

  • Has a high performance water shedding range of finishes to protect the building fabric.

  • Eliminates interstitial condensation by creating a 'warm wall' construction.

  • Suitable for, and effective on most buildings - including lightweight steel frame structures and in-fill panels.

  • Can be suitable for properties that are not suitable for cavity wall insulation.

  • Reduce heat loss and will in turn lower heat bill.
